This article discusses Image Optimization within a Slide to make your pictures look as best as possible when presenting.

It can be difficult to determine the perfect image size with today's wide variety of typical image formats and resolutions. The cameras on modern phones are capable of taking 48 MegaPixel (or even greater) resolution photos, which are much larger than necessary for viewing on most computer screens (see image). In general, a good rule of thumb is to re-size and/or crop your images so that they are as close to the desired visual size as possible for where you want them to appear in the presentation on a typical HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) computer monitor.

Tips on Using the Correct Ratio:

  • If you know you want your photo to take up 1/4 of the screen on a slide, then you can safely crop that image down to 495 x 270 pixels ahead of time, and know that it will render in full resolution when it is being viewed.

  • This will ensure that your presentation images appear vivid and sharp on the slides, but also won't add unnecessary load time to the presentation due to the large file size of higher-than-necessary resolution images.

  • Conversely, you don't want to use an image that is already too small or low resolution and simply enlarge it on the screen, because that will make the enlarged image appear blurry.

  • If you plan to use a larger photo and then "zoom in" to a small section of the photo inside DIGIDECK (similar to the illustration above), we recommend first cropping the image to only the portion you plan to use in the presentation (e.g. crop it to the "4K" shot and then upload it, rather than uploading the "8K" shot and then using the component to zoom in to the "4K" part of the photo.

You can check the current pixel resolution on your image by clicking on the image properties, and you can use any sort of photo editing software such as Adobe or MS Paint to alter the size or your images prior to uploading them into your DIGIDECK. For images that do get uploaded into DIGIDECK at a resolution higher than HD, our platform will automatically rescale those images for you so they don't contribute to a longer load time for slide content.

Images Library - Image Optimization and Maximum Image Size:

We are optimizing all images uploaded to the platform to reduce loading speed.
Images greater than 1920 x 1080 pixels are optimized twice, once to scale the image down to fit within the maximum image dimensions allowed within the platform (which is 1920 pixels for width and 1080 pixels for height).
Then a second time to optimize the image file size.
If the image uploaded to the platform has dimensions of 1920 x 1080 pixels or smaller the image will only be optimized once for file size.

If you want to keep the most quality possible. Re-save the image outside of the platform so that its dimensions are at or under (both) 1920px for width and 1080px for height.
Save the image as a high quality .png.
.png files are lossless and we don't remove as much quality from the file when optimizing them.
